Our Process

OUR PROCESS

At Copia, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of modern investing. Our investment decisions are driven by experience and our belief that the main driver of portfolio return outcomes is asset allocation rather than stock selection.

We offer our IFA clients a unique combination of personal client relationships under-pinned by the highest quality technical resources. Copia’s processes are quantitatively driven, but our investment team retains oversight and control over the entire investment process, personally managing clients through every stage.

Our highly scientific investment methodology is guided by Copia’s specially developed and proprietary Risk Barometer. This ensures that tactical asset allocation decisions are always driven by a quantitative process, reducing manager risk and behavioural biases.

All our processes have been developed by using the very best practices observed and in use across the global institutional investment community. We also have a rigorous approach to demonstrating value for money and you can read more about our assessment process here

Through Copia, world-class investment methodologies are freely available to IFAs of all sizes.

Robust 3-stage investment process

Copia’s investment process is highly robust. Consistent across all our portfolios and yet personalised, it is designed around the individual needs of each client. Our processes involve three key elements:

Through our professional network, Copia has access to shielded share classes. This privilege enables us to access discounted fund share classes and extend these discounts to clients. We apply a rigorous quantitative screening process to ensure that all funds used in our portfolios fit our criteria and we regularly review these as part of an ongoing evaluation process. This maximises investment performance by evaluating consistency, liquidity, overall trading costs and structure.

Developed for full transparency, Copia’s institutional level reporting is fully compliant with FCA PROD regulations to ensure best practice governance. Our client service reports include monthly market updates and portfolio factsheets, plus the outcomes of quarterly Investment Committee meetings and reports, with detailed performance and risk analysis.

Client-driven manager research

Copia’s manager research process aims to identify superior investment options for your portfolios, using a flexible approach that can be tailored to meet each client’s needs. Our process is forward-looking, evidence-backed and focused on the fundamentals of investment research.

Copia has a strong tradition rooted in quantitative analysis to deliver consistent and attractive results. This is supplemented by qualitative research, which enhances our technical analysis and delivers additional value for clients.

Research is fully integrated into the investment team, maintaining a close connection between investment research, the portfolio and the client. The team’s small size means Copia can remain nimble, while also leveraging its scale and strong relationships with fund groups to benefit our clients.

At all times, Copia operates with the highest levels of integrity, remaining wholly independent and impartial in our fund selection.
